birthday roller skate extravaganza!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!! Since today is the day of love,  I wanted to use my throw back thursday to show some love to my one of  my BFFs and intro his super fun roller skatin birthday extravaganza that happened on Nov 24 at Tokyo Dome Roller Skating Arena (東京ドーム ローラー スケート アリーナ).  Mr T wanted an old school party, bringin it back to elementary school days. Who didn’t have a skating party? iIremember mine was at Crystal Palace Skating Rink!! Loved doing the limbo, and the chicken dance on skates. Oh the memories….

Mr T was so excited his birthday dreams would finally come true when he found Tokyo Dome Roller Skating Arena. It’s one of the largest skating rinks in Tokyo. You can get there from Suidobashi Station (水道橋駅) or Korakuen Station (後楽園駅).  For us skating is a part of growing up in America, but for some of our Japanese friends, this was their first time skating.

Tokyo Dome City is huge, they have many amusement facilities, restaurants, shops, and even a hotel. So we kept it all in one place. Mr T’s party went like this—grubbin on lots of yummy shrimp at Bubba Gump (ババ・ガンプ・シュリンプ) from 6pm, burn off all the kcals from dinner on the skating rink from 8-10pm, and finally it’s time to relax and down a couple of drinks at News Deli Cafe & Bar (ニューズデリ). Sounds totally fun, right?

A small group of us made it Bubba Gump. Tim kinda set a dress code for his party—was supposed to be 80s. I wanted to be decked out–but maybe I was more enthusiastic about it then others. hahaha. So I decided to rock a side pony tail with a Chanel head band, a Madonna tank, with a bright yellow Lucy workout top, and shiny light blue leggings. Not everyone wanted to go out like this, but I braved it in the train with RiRi who was dressed totally normal. I have no shame. hahhaha.

We filled our bellies with garlic shrimp, fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, cajun shrimp, you name it we ate it. So a little on the full side, we headed to git our skate on!! we met about 15 other friends at the rink. First, we had to pay the entrance fee of 1,500 yen (about $17 usd) and 500 yen to rent skates (about $5.50 usd). In Japan everything seems to be on a time limit so the 2,000 yen we just paid was only good for 2 hours. If you want to skate longer you have to pay an extra 300yen for 30 minutes.

1. You can choose either roller skates or roller blades. Now, skates are much easier to put on now since they use velcro, back in day we had to lace them up.  2.  I love how they switched out a lot of the wheels with new special ones that start flashing lights when you are skating.  3.  They dim the rink lights too, so it looks cool with everyones’ wheels flashing.

Now it was time for roller skating fun!! There were some other people in the skating rink. This older couple was like super duper good, and speed demons to say the least. I tried to race them. Obviously I beat them–hahhha.  1. Oh almost forgot they did have a DJ on had. 2.  It was old school Johnny’s night (Japanese boy bands) at the rink. That music was sorta not fun to skate too, but then they changed it up and we were all singing and skating a long!! They even did a birthday shout out to Mr T –loved it!!

No room to cut a cake, so Mr T did the next best thing—he brought Krispy Kreme Doughnuts!! Gotta love that fierce face Mr T!! Oh and love how Fee looks so innocent in this pic. tee hee hee.

It had been years since I last went roller skating—well actually maybe only a couple of years. But I forgot how much I love doing it!!! after skating, we were off to News Deli for drinks. Between all that shrimp and doughnuts I was sooo full. So instead of alcohol I opted for a coffee. Time to stay warm and just relax and hang out!!  But i do remember the next day my legs were like sore in weird random places. Anyways, it was super fun and Mr T sure had a good time too. Happy Burfday!! So what fun theme birthday parties have you had or been to?
