Recently, I have been coming to Daikanyama (代官山) more and more. Daikanyama is a very fashionable area filled with luxury boutiques, posh restaurants, sidewalk cafes and upscale pastry shops. Although it’s in the center of Tokyo, rather than building high-tech superstructures it keeps its humble classic style. And it seemed like the perfect place for our girls lunch!
1. Me, Nancy, Kobarin and Ai decided to have lunch at Eataly (イータリー 代官山店). The last time I was at Eataly was in NYC. 2. The lunch menu was simple, you choose one of the 4 main dishes either pizza or pasta. It comes with a small salad or soup, homemade bread and coffee, espresso or tea.
Since it was hot outside and we choose terrace seating, we all decided to order small salads with our lunch sets. The menu said “small” salad but it was a lot bigger then I expected. Unfortunately the oil based dressing was too light and needed to be seasoned with pepper.
Eataly’s bread was delish. I wanted it to come out piping hot, but even though it wasn’t we all enjoyed it and asked for a second serving (tee hee hee).
I love fat noodles, so I was debating between a pizza but couldn’t resist the fettuccine noodles. For some reason, we all happened to ordered the same main dish, the Garden Style Fettuccine with 7 Vegetables (フェットチーネ７種類菜の菜園風). This was great! The portion was quite large, and it was very tasty.
Me, Nancy, Kobarin and Ai enjoyed our ladies lunch!! I had a refreshing ice tea and everyone else had ice coffees. We sat and chatted, and decided to walk around before getting dessert.
As we walked around, we stumbled upon this cute little cafe stashed in the corner of a small shopping area called 2-3 Cafe (ツースリーカフェ). It’s hard to tell but there is a baseball in between the 2-3. The owner is a big baseball fan, and the name references to baseball; 2 strikes and bases loaded (3 bases). The cafe’s decor is simple with its dark brown wood and matching brown furniture.
Ai had to leave early, so Nancy, Kobarin and I ordered lovely desserts. Nancy and I both ordered the recommended Baked Cheese Cake (ベイクドチーズケーキ). I hadn’t eat cheesecake in a long time so I was craving it. They used a stencil and powdered sugar to decorate the cake. It was cute.
Nancy’s was stenciled with cocoa powder. Even though it was the same cheesecake it gave it a different feeling. The cake itself was light and fluffy. I really liked it, so did Nancy.
Kobarin ordered the Gateau Chocolat (ガトーショコラ). I love fluffy chocolate cake, but I have never been a huge fan of this super sweet chocolate cake, but I liked the way they decorated it. Supposedly it tasted great.
Today was a super satisfying day in Daikanyama. We relaxed and talked and ate yummy food–what more can ya ask for. Where do you like to go with your girlfriends?
